Job summary

All Aspects Recruitment & HR Services in Toowoomba is seeking a Scientific Assistant for a casual/temporary role lasting about 12 months with potential extension.

Responsibilities include assisting senior staff with lab processing, field sampling and glasshouse work, plus travel and outdoor tasks in the Darling Downs region.

Applicants must meet essential lab skills, be willing to travel, and possess a current C-class vehicle licence. The job offers on-site work with casual loading.

Qualifications

• Skills in laboratory, glasshouse and field research techniques relevant to crop agronomy.
• Prepared to travel regionally and work out of ordinary hours.
• Current driver’s licence, and desirably hold a truck licence.
• Overnight travel is a requirement.

• Work independently, following instructions from other staff to successfully complete tasks to support research projects.
• Maintenance of plants for trial work in glasshouse and field.
• Attend and accessing/sampling field trials at Gatton, Darling Downs.
• Work in a safe environment following Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and the Departments Code of Conduct.
• Demonstrate initiative and responsibility by completing allocated tasks and activities to a high standard.
• Establish, enhance and maintain relationships to foster good working relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Contribute to scientific integrity of RD&E projects and activities by rigid adherence to scientific protocols and quality assurance principles

• $40.73 per hour including casual loading

Requirements

Mandatory requirements for this role:

• Current driver’s licence, and desirably hold a truck licence
• Physical requirements of the role include: standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, sitting, twisting, climbing, working outdoors.
• Overnight travel is a requirement.

Essential requirements for this role:

• Skills in laboratory, glasshouse and field research techniques relevant to crop agronomy.
• Prepared to work out of ordinary hours and travel to regional locations as required by the work. Ability to work outdoors.
• Good organisational and communication skills. Proven ability to work effectively in a team, establish work priorities, and meet deadlines.
• A valid “C” class vehicle licence.
