Job summary

UniSC’s Academic Support Unit invites applications for a Technical Assistant (Science) to support undergraduate teaching. You will help prepare laboratories, equipment and consumables, assist with pack-up and cleaning, and maintain a safe learning environment.

Some travel between campuses may be required. You will be a practical, reliable team member with good communication skills, capable of managing tasks in a busy academic setting and following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Diploma or relevant experience in teaching or laboratory support.
• Experience providing practical and technical support in a teaching/lab environment.
• Effective communication and teamwork in a busy academic setting.
• Ability to manage competing demands in a client-focused environment.
• Good manual handling and safe operation of lab tasks.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and SOPs.
• Current driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing, setting up and packing down equipment for Science practical classes.
• Prepare simple solutions, label tubes and restock consumables.
• Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Support safe and effective operation of teaching laboratories.
