Job summary

Westall Primary School in Clayton South seeks a skilled school counsellor to deliver health, wellbeing and therapeutic services, assess student needs and provide timely advice to teachers, students and families.

You will lead, supervise placement counsellors, plan wellbeing interventions, collaborate with allied professionals, support staff and school leadership, and develop evidence-based programs to strengthen student outcomes.

Qualifications

• SC1 Demonstrated ability to deliver care through health, counselling, wellbeing and therapeutic services to a school(s)
• SC2 Demonstrated ability to assess student needs and provide timely relevant advice to teachers, students, and parents to support students' behavioural, educational, emotional, psychological development.
• SC3 Demonstrated ability to support, provide guidance and assess the competency of the 4th year placement counselling graduate students at the school.
• SC4 Demonstrated ability to plan and organise a range of wellbeing and positive psychology-based interventions at the school including workshops for students and professional development for staff.
• SC5 Demonstrated ability to research and undertake a range of professional development activities to further strengthen own practice and the school's program.
• SC6 Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills - to be able to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders in a multicultural local community.

Responsibilities

• COORDINATING AND SUPPORTING OTHER WELLBEING PROVIDERS: The counsellor will participate in site wellbeing meetings and connect with students and families as part of the broader team.
• COUNSELLING: Undertake counselling with students and develop a counselling schedule in consultation with the Assistant Principal.
• OVERSEEING AND SUPPORTING THE MONASH PLACEMENT COUNSELLORS: Assist on recruitment panels for placement counsellors and oversee inductions.
• SUPPORTING SCHOOL WELLBEING INITIATIVES: Assess student needs and provide feedback to teachers and parents, including planning and advising on positive psychology initiatives.
• CHAPLAIN: Provide support for student attendance, engagement and mental health, and refer to appropriate services when needed.
