Job description

Hale School is Western Australia’s oldest independent boys’ school. Located in the suburb of Wembley Downs, the current campus is situated on a magnificent 48-hectare site, approximately 13 kilometres to the north-west of Perth and two kilometres from the coast.

Hale School is seeking applications from enthusiastic, experienced and well-qualified professionals for the position of School Psychologist (Junior School to Year 7).

The School Psychologist plays a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, behavioural and educational wellbeing of students from Pre-Primary to Year 7. Working collaboratively with students, families, teaching staff, learning support personnel and external providers, the successful applicant will provide psychological assessment, intervention, consultation and wellbeing support, while contributing to a whole-school approach to student wellbeing and pastoral care.

The successful applicant will meet the following Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated ability to build positive, supportive and professional relationships with students, staff and families.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex psychological information in a clear and practical manner.

Highly developed counselling, consultation and case management skills.

Experience supporting children and young adolescents with a range of social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs.

Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, learning support staff, health professionals and external agencies.

Demonstrated capacity to contribute to student wellbeing initiatives, parent education programs and staff professional learning.

High levels of organisation, initiative and professional judgement, including the ability to maintain confidential records and manage competing priorities.

Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous professional learning and ongoing improvement.

Understanding of child protection responsibilities and a commitment to safeguarding children and young people.

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology.

Current registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA.

Experience working with children and young people.

Experience in a school, educational or multidisciplinary mental health setting is highly desirable.
