Job summary

King's College Warrnambool in South West Victoria seeks a compassionate School Chaplain / Wellbeing Officer to join our pastoral care team and support students’ social, emotional, spiritual and personal development.

You will build meaningful relationships with students, families and staff while contributing to a caring, Christ-centred environment from ELC to Year 12. Hope, belonging and resilience will be developed through targeted programs.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in chaplaincy and pastoral care, counselling, youth work, community services, psychology or wellbeing.
• Experience in school, youth, pastoral care or community settings is highly regarded.
• Active involvement in a Bible-based evangelical church and ability to support the College ethos.

Working as part of our broader student wellbeing and pastoral care team, the School Chaplain / Wellbeing Officer will provide support to students across the College, developing trusting relationships and helping students navigate the social, emotional, spiritual and personal challenges they may experience.

The successful applicant will contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture through pastoral care, mentoring, wellbeing initiatives, small-group programs and opportunities for students to explore and grow in their faith.

The role will involve working collaboratively with teachers, Heads of School, Learning Support, Chaplaincy, families and external professionals to ensure students receive appropriate support.

Your day-to-day will involve

• Providing pastoral care, mentoring and wellbeing support to students
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students and identifying opportunities to support their wellbeing and engagement
• Supporting students experiencing social, emotional, family or other personal challenges
• Developing and facilitating wellbeing, resilience, personal development and small-group programs
• Supporting and contributing to Christian programs, prayer, devotions and other opportunities for students to explore and grow in their faith
• Working collaboratively with teachers, Heads of School, Learning Support staff and College leadership
• Liaising appropriately with parents and carers regarding student wellbeing and support
• Speaking and presenting regularly at College assemblies, chapels and other whole-school gatherings, sharing age-appropriate Christian messages and reflections
• Working with external professionals and agencies where referrals or additional support are required
• Supporting College camps, excursions, assemblies, events and other activities that contribute to student wellbeing and community
• Maintaining appropriate records and documentation while ensuring confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Contributing to a safe, respectful and welcoming environment in which every student feels known and valued

About you

You are a caring, mature and relational person who genuinely enjoys working with young people. You are able to build trust, listen well and respond with empathy while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

You will be a committed Christian who is actively involved in the life of a Bible-based evangelical church and is able to support and model the Christian ethos and values of King's College.

You will also bring:

• A genuine passion for supporting the wellbeing and development of young people
• Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, student wellbeing, chaplaincy, counselling, youth work or a related field
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
• The ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff and external professionals
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage confidential information appropriately
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• A calm, compassionate and non-judgemental approach
• A commitment to child safety and the wellbeing of all students
• The ability to contribute positively to the Christian life and culture of the College

Qualifications and experience

A relevant qualification in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:

• Chaplaincy and pastoral care
• Counselling
• Youth work
• Community services
• Social work
• Psychology or wellbeing
• Education or student support

Experience working within a school, youth, pastoral care or community setting will also be highly regarded.

Applicants must hold, or be willing to obtain, the relevant Victorian child safety and employment screening requirements, including a Working with Children Check.
