Job summary

Dayton Area School Consortium is seeking a part-time School Nutritional Service/ Food Service Worker to support cafeteria operations, assisting with food prep, serving meals, cashier duties, and maintaining a clean dining environment for students and staff.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of food safety, and the ability to work in a fast-paced team with flexible hours, including mornings and occasional evenings for events. A background check is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Previous food service, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment and cash registers.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with a diverse team.
• Willingness to adhere to school policies, dress code and behavior standards.
• Flexible hours including early mornings and occasional evenings for events.
• Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and uphold professional standards.
• Valid Ohio Driver's License.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and cooking food items according to standardized recipes and sanitation guidelines.
• Set up serving lines, portion food items, serve meals to students and staff, and ensure timely and orderly meal service.
• Operate cash registers or POS, process meal transactions, and reconcile cash drawers at each shift end.
• Provide friendly, courteous service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and dining areas.
• Follow established food safety protocols including temperature monitoring and storage.
• Assist in receiving, stocking, and rotating supplies with inventory records.
• Collaborate with staff and administrators to ensure smooth cafeteria operation.
• Document meal counts and sales data for reporting purposes.
