Job summary

Queensland Department of Education seeks an experienced Business Manager (AO4) at Pine Rivers Special School to oversee administrative, financial and operational functions. This role supports school outcomes through strong leadership and collaboration with staff in a specialist education setting.

The position focuses on budget planning, payroll and purchasing, and coordinating facilities and resource management to ensure safe, effective learning environments for students.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of school facilities and finance.
• Ability to lead, organise and support school administration and operations.
• Experience in managing payroll, purchasing, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of school business services independently, interpreting complex information, adapting processes and providing administrative support through reports, correspondence, research and recommendations.
• Supervise and manage school support staff, including monitoring workloads and performance, identifying workforce capability needs, approving timesheets and leave applications, coordinating rosters and relief staff, and overseeing recruitment, induction and training.
• Assist the Principal with budget planning and administration, manage daily financial operations such as payroll and purchasing, review expenditure, prepare OneSchool financial reports and recommend solutions to financial matters in line with legislation and policy.
• Oversee facilities, grounds maintenance and resource management by coordinating repairs, liaising with contractors, monitoring maintenance budgets, managing equipment purchases and upkeep, and identifying opportunities to improve resource sustainability.
• Build professional networks with Business Managers, staff and community representatives to promote best practice in corporate services, while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, empathy and trust when managing sensitive situations.
