Synchronous Group is seeking an experienced Estimator to own the ME‑E and BMS estimating function across ACT and NSW. The role involves taking tender briefs, performing take-offs, and producing accurate, commercially sound estimates for both mechanical‑electrical and BMS projects.

You'll collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Finance to ensure estimates are practical and deliverable, while building templates and processes for future growth.

Qualifications

About Us

Synchronous is a growing Building Automation and Switchboards business operating across the ACT and NSW.

We design, manufacture, install and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS), mechanical‑electrical services and electrical switchboards for commercial, government and mission‑critical environments, including data centres, healthcare, education and pharmaceutical projects.

We are an owner‑led business with ambitious growth plans, and we' re investing in the people and systems needed to support that growth.

We' re now looking for an experienced Estimator — Mechanical‑Electrical & BMS to join the team and take ownership of our estimating function.

The Role

This is a newly created role and an opportunity to make your mark.

You' ll be responsible for taking projects from tender or client brief through to a complete, accurate and commercially sound estimate.

You' ll work across both mechanical‑electrical and BMS scope, including quantity take‑offs, labour, materials, subcontractor pricing and supplier quotes. You' ll also work closely with our Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Finance teams to make sure our estimates are practical, competitive and deliverable.

Because this is our first dedicated estimating position, you' ll also help build the way we estimate as a business — developing templates, rate tables, assumptions and processes that can grow with the team.

Your work will include:

• Reading and interpreting architectural, mechanical, electrical and BMS drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documents.
• Identifying scope gaps, ambiguities, exclusions and project risks.
• Completing quantity take‑offs across mechanical‑electrical services, including cabling, containment, switchboards, distribution, mechanical services power and control wiring.
• Preparing BMS estimates covering points, controllers, field devices, networks, graphics, integration, commissioning and documentation.
• Pricing switchboard packages in conjunction with our Switchboards Sales Engineer.
• Building labour estimates from first principles and obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Preparing clear estimate summaries, assumptions, exclusions and clarifications.
• Supporting tender submissions, client clarifications, value engineering and negotiations.
• Attending site inspections, tender briefings and client or consultant meetings where required.
• Working with Project Managers to ensure successful handover of won projects, including budgets, assumptions, risks and buy lists.
• Reviewing completed projects against the original estimate and using those learnings to improve future pricing.
• Building and maintaining estimating templates, labour norms, rate tables and price books.
• Supporting variations and scope changes during project delivery when required.

About You

You're an experienced estimator who understands that good estimating is about more than putting numbers into a spreadsheet.

You know how to read drawings, ask the right questions, identify risk and build a price that the delivery team can actually achieve.

You’ll ideally bring-

• Demonstrated estimating experience in mechanical‑electrical, electrical services, BMS, controls or a related building services environment.
• The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and schedules.
• Strong quantity take‑off and pricing skills.
• Experience building labour and material estimates and obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of margins, risk, exclusions and project budgets.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to tender deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• The confidence to work with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal project teams.
• A trade, engineering, building services or equivalent technical background.
• Australian working rights and a current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Experience across both mechanical‑electrical and BMS would be highly regarded. However, we' re also interested in strong estimators who are particularly experienced in one discipline and have the technical ability and appetite to develop across the other.
• Experience with BMS, HVAC controls, switchboards, data centres, healthcare, education, pharmaceutical or other mission‑critical projects will also be highly regarded.
• Experience with estimating/take‑off software, ERP or job‑costing systems such as Ascora, or tools such as Bluebeam, would be advantageous.
