Job summary

Mega Electrics AUS is seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator to join our Victoria branch in Fairfield, Melbourne. You will prepare, review and submit detailed estimates for electrical systems in large infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget and timelines.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers and suppliers, review drawings and specifications, and develop competitive bids using Pronamics and simPRO software to drive value and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma required (Electrical/Construction).
• Minimum 5 years estimating infrastructure projects.
• Experience with major infrastructure projects (highways, tunnels, airports, utilities).

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical estimates including material take-offs, labour, equipment and subcontracts.
• Submit tender submissions and evaluate quotes for competitiveness.
• Conduct cost analyses against historical data and benchmarks.

We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Electrical Estimator to join our Victoria Branch based in Fairfield, Melbourne.

About the Role: The Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate cost estimates for electrical components in major infrastructure projects. This role involves reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and contracts to evaluate material, labour, and other project-related costs. The Senior Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, and suppliers to ensure estimates reflect project needs, scope, and budget requirements, especially in large-scale infrastructure projects like highways, tunnels, rail systems, airports, or power distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities

Estimate Preparation

• Develop detailed and accurate estimates for electrical systems in projects, including material take-offs, labour, equipment, and subcontracts.
• Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify electrical requirements.
• Prepare both conceptual and detailed estimates at various stages of project design and development.

Tendering and Bid Management

• Prepare tender submissions for infrastructure projects, ensuring all electrical components are accurately costed.
• Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitiveness and adherence to project requirements.
• Collaborate with the project team to develop winning bid strategies, including risk identification and mitigation.

Cost Analysis

• Perform detailed cost breakdowns and comparisons against historical data, market trends, and benchmarks.
• Identify potential cost savings and value engineering opportunities in electrical designs.
• Adjust estimates based on changes in scope, material costs, labour rates, and construction methodologies.

Project Coordination

• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and designers to ensure that the electrical estimate aligns with the project scope and objectives.
• Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to obtain current pricing for materials and services.
• Assist in the development of project schedules by estimating manpower needs and sequencing for electrical works.

Stakeholder Management

• Maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather up-to-date pricing information and market conditions.
• Attend pre-bid and project meetings to clarify the scope of work and resolve discrepancies in the electrical design or estimates.
• Identify new areas of opportunity, procure new clients, and nurture leads.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare detailed estimation reports, cost summaries, and financial models for executive and client review.
• Maintain a database of historical cost data and pricing benchmarks for use in future estimates.
• Ensure all estimates and related documentation are accurate, thorough, and submitted within project deadlines.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Strong understanding of electrical systems and installations in major infrastructure projects (e.g., power distribution, lighting, communication systems, control systems, etc.).
• Proficiency in estimation software such as Pronamics or simPRO.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Knowledge of industry standards, electrical codes, and regulations.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
• Experience in project forecasting, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) and simPRO software.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex estimates to stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills/ Qualifications:

• Proven experience in estimating electrical works for large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., transport, energy, civil infrastructure).
• Minimum of 5 years in an electrical estimating role, with a significant focus on infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Professional certification as an Electrical Estimator or relevant trade qualifications (preferred).
• Desirable Skills/ Qualifications:
• Experience with major infrastructure projects (e.g., rail, highways, utilities).
• Knowledge of renewable energy projects and the integration of sustainable electrical systems.
• Experience working on projects in high-risk environments (e.g., tunnels, airports, or large civil infrastructure).
