Job summary

Seymour Whyte is seeking a Safety Manager to lead health and safety across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects in the Canberra region. Working alongside senior leaders, you'll help influence decisions, strengthen safety culture and support project teams to deliver exceptional outcomes for safely and sustainably.

You'll be a trusted partner to our Project Managers and site teams, providing expert advice, leadership and support across multiple projects throughout the Canberra region.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline.
  • Extensive health and safety leadership experience in civil construction or high-risk environments.
  • Proven track record leading safety across complex, multi-project settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and ISO 45001.
  • Experience leading investigations, audits, risk management and assurance.
  • Collaborative leadership with ability to influence and coach at all levels.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with actionable insights.
  • Experience building relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and safety culture.
  • Certifications such as ICAM, White Card, First Aid, Driver's Licence are highly regarded.

  • Partner with Project Managers, Operations Managers and site teams for safety leadership and coaching.
  • Drive proactive safety culture and champion best practice across projects.
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyse safety performance, trends and leading indicators to influence regional strategy.
  • Mentor and develop project safety teams and provide guidance to safety and operations staff.
  • Oversee audits, inspections and assurance activities for compliance with legislation and standards.
  • Support project mobilisation, risk management and safety systems implementation.
  • Build strong client, regulator and stakeholder relationships as a trusted safety adviser.

Seymour Whyte is looking for a Safety Manager to lead health and safety across a portfolio of infrastructure projects in the Canberra region. Working alongside senior leaders, you'll help influence decisions, strengthen safety culture and support project teams to deliver exceptional outcomes for safely and sustainably.

You'll be a trusted partner to our Project Managers and site teams, providing expert advice, leadership and support across multiple projects throughout the Canberra region. From coaching project teams and leading investigations to driving safety strategy and continuous improvement initiatives, you'll play a hands‑on role in ensuring our people go home safe every day while helping deliver some of the region's most significant infrastructure projects.

About The Role
  • Lead health and safety performance across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects throughout the Canberra region

  • Analyse safety performance, trends and leading indicators to influence regional strategy and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Mentor and develop project safety teams, providing guidance to both safety and operational personnel
  • Oversee audits, inspections and assurance activities to ensure compliance with legislation, company standards and industry best practice
  • Support project mobilisation, risk management and the implementation of project specific safety systems and strategies
  • Build strong relationships with clients, project stakeholders and regulators, acting as a trusted adviser on all safety matters
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline
  • Extensive Health & Safety leadership experience within civil construction, infrastructure or a comparable high‑risk industry
  • A proven track record leading safety across complex, multi‑project environments
  • Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, ISO 45001 and contemporary safety management systems
  • Experience leading investigations, audits, risk management and assurance activities
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence, coach and challenge at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate insights into action
  • Experience building positive relationships with clients, regulators and operational stakeholders
  • A passion for continuous improvement and creating a culture where safety is genuinely valued
  • ICAM, Auditor, White Card, First Aid and Driver's License certifications highly regarded
