Job summary

GC Wind Services Pty Ltd in Tweed Heads, NSW, seeks a Rope Access Technician to inspect and repair wind turbine blades. You will conduct rope access at height, follow IRATA standards, and perform detailed blade inspections and repairs.

You will complete reports, participate in safety drills, and work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, safe wind turbine maintenance.

Qualifications

  • IRATA/SPRAT certification or equivalent is required.
  • Wind turbine blade inspection and repair knowledge.
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in varying weather.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rope access activities in accordance with IRATA requirements and site procedures.
  • Safely access wind turbine blades for inspection, maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspect blades for defects: cracks, erosion, delamination, leading edge wear and damage.
  • Carry out blade repairs and coating applications per specifications.
  • Complete blade cleaning, preventive maintenance, and protective coatings.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of rope access gear, PPE, rescue gear and tools.
  • Establish and inspect rope systems and anchor points per IRATA.
  • Monitor weather and environmental conditions; suspend work when unsafe.
  • Participate in rescue planning and emergency response readiness.
  • Complete inspection, repair and daily work reports with accuracy.
  • Report defects, faults, hazards and incidents to supervisors.
  • Comply with SWMS, JSAs, permits and HSE procedures.
  • Collaborate with Blade Platform Operators, Technicians and Supervisors.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in clean, organized condition.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and training for competency.

Job Brief:

Position:Rope Access Technician

Location: Tweed Heads, NSW

Job type: Full Time, 38 hours/week

Salary range: AUD 120k to 130k

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rope access activities in accordance with IRATA requirements, company procedures and site specific requirements.
  • Safely access wind turbine blades using approved rope access techniques to carry out inspection, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform detailed visual inspections of wind turbine blades and identify defects including cracks, erosion, lightning damage, delamination, leading edge wear and structural damage.
  • Carry out composite blade repairs, surface preparation, laminating, filling, sanding, finishing and coating applications in accordance with approved repair specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Complete blade cleaning, preventative maintenance and protective coating works as required.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of rope access equipment, PPE, rescue equipment and tools, ensuring all equipment remains compliant and serviceable.
  • Establish, inspect and maintain rope systems and anchor points in accordance with IRATA requirements.
  • Monitor weather conditions, wind speeds and environmental factors, suspending work whenever conditions become unsafe.
  • Participate in rescue planning and emergency response activities and maintain readiness to perform rope access rescues.
  • Accurately complete inspection reports, repair records, quality documentation, photographic evidence and daily work reports.
  • Report blade defects, equipment faults, hazards, incidents and non-conformances to the Rope Access Supervisor or Site Manager immediately.
  • Comply with all Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), permits and company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with Blade Platform Operators, Blade Technicians, Supervisors and other site personnel to safely complete inspection and repair works.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, organised and serviceable condition.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, competency assessments, emergency drills and ongoing training.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across all project sites.
Skills
  • Sound understanding of industrial rope access systems, equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of wind turbine blade inspection, composite repair techniques and quality standards.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Ability to work safely at heights in challenging environmental conditions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to identify defects, damage and deterioration in wind turbine blades.
  • Competent in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and composite repair equipment.
  • Ability to complete inspection reports, repair documentation and photographic records.
  • Physically fit with the ability to perform demanding work at height.
  • Calm, safety-focused and capable of making sound decisions under pressure.
Qualifications
  • Construction White Card.
  • IRATA Level 1, 2 or 3 Certification (or SPRAT equivalent, where applicable).
  • GWO Basic Safety Training (BST).
  • Working at Heights.
  • Current First Aid and CPR.
  • Rescue from Heights competency.
  • Current Australian Driver Licence.
  • High Risk Work Licence (desirable).
  • Experience performing wind turbine blade inspections and repairs (desirable).
