Job summary

Gemco Rail Pty Ltd, a leading rolling stock maintenance provider in Australia, seeks an experienced Boilermaker/Welder at our Rockhampton, QLD site to repair, overhaul and maintain wagons, bogies and related components. You will read drawings, fabricate components and perform oxy cutting and welding to precise specifications.

The role reports to the Site Supervisor and is a full-time, on-site position with safety, lean improvement, and teamwork at the core.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification and experience in rolling stock or railway equipment.
• Good knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
• Sound general engineering knowledge and safe work practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organisational skills.
• Class C driver's license and willingness to learn LEAN methodologies.
• Interest in process improvement and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Carry out welding of components to a finished state.
• Remove and replace worn or damaged components.
• Repair worn and damaged components and fabricate metal parts.
• Read drawings and manufacture components per drawings.
• Oxy cutting and welding to rolling stock; use plasma cutter.
• Modify components through fabrication; produce brackets and tooling.
• Conduct minor mechanical repairs to ARC, MIG and welders.
