Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking a RiverConnect Education & Engagement Officer to support the Sustainability and Environment Team. You will deliver education, engagement and stewardship initiatives that strengthen connection to the river environment.

You will work with RiverConnect partners, schools and community groups to plan events, develop outdoor learning, create resources and build relationships with Traditional Owners and stakeholders. Occasional after-hours work applies.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental education or related field.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fifth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing, transport and health care. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 69,000 and is culturally rich with 17.4% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.

Salary: $80,385.24 per annum

Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Sustainability and Environment Team as the RiverConnect Education & Engagement Officer. Working with Council staff, RiverConnect partners, schools, volunteers and community groups, you will deliver education, engagement, participation and stewardship initiatives that strengthen connection to the river environment.

About the Role

Supported by the Team Leader Sustainability and Environment and RiverConnect partners, and working closely with the RiverConnect Project Officer you will:

• Deliver RiverConnect Strategic Plan actions and targets


• Develop and facilitate environmental education, outdoor learning and participation activities


• Plan and deliver community events, campaigns, volunteer and stewardship initiatives


• Build relationships with schools, Traditional Owners, partners and community stakeholders


• Create engaging resources, social media, website content and newsletters

This role will suit a motivated, organised and collaborative individual with strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Applicants with relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience in environmental education, community engagement, community development, natural resource management, sustainability or communications are encouraged to apply.

Occasional after-hours and weekend work is required to support activities and events, with time-in-lieu available.
