KOOKAÏ is seeking an experienced Risk Manager to join its Legal & Risk team. The role focuses on identifying, managing, and mitigating risk across the business, including fraud prevention, cyber risk, crisis management, insurance, and compliance.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will shape risk programs and drive a culture of risk awareness. This hands-on, high-impact role leads a Risk Coordinator and collaborates with Legal, Finance, IT, Retail Operations and People & Development.

Qualifications

• Experience in risk, compliance, audit or operational frameworks (retail experience highly regarded).
• Relevant tertiary qualification in risk management, finance, business or related discipline.

As KOOKAÏ continues to grow both here in Australia and globally, we are looking for an experienced Risk Manager to join our Legal & Risk team and help protect the business as we scale.

This is an opportunity to shape how KOOKAÏ identifies, manages and mitigates risk across every part of the business; from fraud prevention and cyber risk to crisis management, insurance and compliance. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will have a direct impact on the resilience of Head Office and every store we operate.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll lead risk identification and mitigation strategies, investigate fraud and irregularities, and build a genuine culture of risk awareness across the business. With a Risk Coordinator reporting to you, you’ll work closely with several departments including Legal, Finance, IT, Retail Operations and People & Development.

This full-time role is based onsite working at our KOOKAÏ Head Office, Hawthorn East.

What you'll be doing:

• Systematically identify and document operational, strategic, reputational and regulatory risks across the business
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, and benchmark KOOKAÏ's practices against industry best practice
• Conduct annual risk audits and provide reports and recommendations to the senior leadership team
• Investigate allegations of fraud and dishonesty, including financial analysis, stakeholder interviews and reporting on findings
• Review transaction data to identify patterns, anomalies and red flags, escalating significant risks as required
• Assess and respond to data breaches in collaboration with IT, and maintain KOOKAÏ's Data Breach Response Plan
• Develop and maintain KOOKAÏ's crisis management and business continuity plan
• Manage all insurance matters for the Company, including broker relationships and claims administration
• Deliver training and build awareness of risk management across the business
• Chair quarterly OH&S meetings and oversee OH&S reporting, audits and records

What we'd love from you:

• Proven experience in risk, compliance, audit or operational frameworks (retail experience highly regarded)
• A relevant tertiary qualification in risk management, finance, business or a related discipline
• Ability to interpret complex risk information and apply sound judgement in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Solid project management, time management and organisational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A results-driven, solutions-focused approach with strong initiative and attention to detail
• Competence across MS Office, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel
• A high level of integrity and respect for confidentiality
