Job summary

Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT seeks retrieval doctors to support remote South Australia and the Northern Territory. You’ll provide remote emergency advice, coordinate primary retrievals, and deliver aeromedical emergency care from the Port Augusta base.

You may live in Adelaide and travel to Port Augusta every 4–8 weeks for a 4–7 day rotation as part of a skilled team. Ideal candidates are doctors with experience in emergency medicine and anaesthesia, with AHPRA registration and fellowships,

Qualifications

• Doctor with experience in emergency medicine and/or anaesthesia.
• Unrestricted Medical Practitioner registration with AHPRA.
• Fellowship with ACEM, ANZCA or RACGP/ACRRM with JCCA or GEMS certification.
• Minimum three years’ experience in Emergency medicine and/or Anaesthesia.
• Minimum 6 months training in a critical care environment.
• Experience in procedural skills, resuscitation and paediatrics.
• Good understanding of primary healthcare, allied healthcare and nursing colleagues.
• Experience supervising and mentoring consultants, registrars and medical students.
• Highly developed leadership, management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support remote South Australia & Northern Territory by providing remote emergency advice and clinical coordination of primary retrievals.
• Deliver aeromedical emergency care from Port Augusta base.
• Possibly based in Adelaide and drive to Port Augusta for rotations every 4–8 weeks (4–7 days).
• Contribute to responsive, timely emergency care for isolated communities.

About this Opportunity

RFDS SA/NT retrieval doctors support remote South Australia & Northern Territory by providing remote emergency advice, clinical coordination of primary retrievals & aeromedical emergency care from our Port Augusta base. You may be based/living in Adelaide maintaining your skills in emergency medicine or anaesthesia, with a passion for supporting regional communities part time by driving to Port Augusta once every 4-8 weeks for a 4–7-day rotation as part of a team of highly skilled doctors and flight nurses. You will have a passion for responsive, timely emergency care for our most isolated communities. We believe our people – all of our people – keep the Royal Flying Doctor Service flying.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a doctor with experience in emergency, ICU & anaesthesia. You will have:

• Unrestricted Medical Practitioner registration with AHPRA.
• Fellowship with ACEM, ANZCA or RACGP/ACRRM with JCCA or GEMS certification.
• Minimum three years’ experience in Emergency medicine and/or Anaesthesia.
• Minimum 6 months training in a critical care environment.
• Experience in procedural skills, resuscitation and paediatrics.
• A good understanding of and appreciation for primary healthcare, allied healthcare and your nursing colleagues.
• Experience supervising and mentoring consultants, registrars and medical students.
• Highly developed leadership, management and communication skills

Ideally, you will also have experience in remote area medicine, along with a well-developed understanding of rural and remote Australia and the challenges of providing first class healthcare within these environments.
