Job summary

Blooms The Chemist Kingaroy is seeking a Retail Pharmacist to dispense prescribed medicines, educate customers on health promotion and disease prevention, and supply non-prescription medicines in a friendly community pharmacy. You will hold current Australian pharmacy registration, a bachelor degree in pharmacy, and ideally one year of retail experience.

Duties include counselling, immunisations, PBS compliance, and supervising junior staff; the role is full-time with a competitive salary of AUD

• At least 1 year of experience in a retail pharmacy.
• Sound knowledge of dispensing practice, drug interactions, PBS.
• Ability to supervise and guide pharmacy staff in a busy community setting.

Key Responsibilities

As a Retail Pharmacist at Blooms The Chemist Kingaroy, you will be responsible for dispensing prescribed pharmaceuticals to the public, educating customers on health promotion, disease prevention and the proper use of medicines, and supplying non-prescription medicines and related goods in a community pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing prescriptions and relevant patient information to identify appropriate dosages, potential interactions, contraindications, allergies and other medication-related risks.
• Dispensing prescription medicines accurately and ensuring that all labelling, documentation and supply requirements are met.
• Liaising with prescribers and other healthcare professionals to clarify prescriptions and address medication-related concerns.
• Providing clear counselling to customers about the correct use, storage and possible side effects of prescription and non-prescription medicines.
• Reviewing patients’ medication regimens and supporting the safe and effective management of ongoing or complex medicine therapy.
• Recommending appropriate non-prescription medicines, therapeutic products and health-related aids based on customers’ individual needs.
• Delivering pharmacist-led health services, including vaccinations, health consultations and other professional pharmacy services, in accordance with applicable registration and legislative requirements.
• Maintaining accurate dispensing, prescription and controlled-drug records in compliance with professional standards, PBS requirements and relevant legislation.
• Monitoring the storage, security and stock rotation of medicines, including vaccines, refrigerated products and scheduled medicines.
• Supporting quality assurance, patient safety and effective workflow within the dispensary.
• Supervising and providing professional guidance to pharmacy interns, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.
• Contributing to health promotion and disease-prevention initiatives within the pharmacy and the wider Kingaroy community.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• A bachelor degree or higher qualification in pharmacy and a one year traineeship is preferred.
• Current registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• At least 1 year of experience in fulfilling similar responsibility in a retail pharmacy.
• Sound knowledge of dispensing practice, drug interactions, contra-indications and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
• Demonstrated ability to review medicine histories and monitor patients' medicine therapy.
• Completion of accredited pharmacist immuniser training, or willingness to complete it, is desirable.
• Ability to maintain accurate records in compliance with legislative and professional standards, including for scheduled medicines.
• Ability to supervise and guide pharmacy support staff in a busy community pharmacy environment.
• Strong communication skills to explain medicine use and health information clearly to customers and to liaise with prescribers.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety and quality use of medicines.

This is a full-time position with an annual salary of AUD $79,500-$100,000 plus superannuation, in line with industry standards.
