Mareeba H Hardware in Mareeba, QLD is seeking a reliable Retail and Trade Sales Assistant to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. You will assist tradespeople, contractors and the public with product advice, quotations and order processing, ensuring dependable service and accurate order fulfillment.

You will work closely with the Branch Manager to maintain stock, handle enquiries, and coordinate deliveries while providing a practical, customer‑focused experience in our local hardware

Retail and Trade Sales Assistant – Full Time

Mareeba H Hardware | Mareeba, QLD

Mareeba H Hardware is seeking a reliable, practical and customer-focused Retail and Trade Sales Assistant to join our team in a permanent full-time position.

This is a varied, hands‑on role supporting tradespeople, contractors, rural customers and members of the public. You will provide practical product advice, prepare quotations and orders, coordinate deliveries and assist with the daily operation of our retail hardware branch.

About the role

As a Retail and Trade Sales Assistant, you will provide knowledgeable and efficient service to customers in person, over the telephone and by email. You will work closely with the Branch Manager and other team members to ensure orders are processed accurately and customers receive dependable service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing friendly and professional service at the trade counter and throughout the store

• Building strong working relationships with trade, commercial and retail customers

• Understanding customer requirements and recommending suitable hardware, tools and related products

• Preparing quotations and following up customer enquiries

• Processing sales, payments, customer accounts and special orders accurately

• Responding to customer enquiries in person, by telephone and by email

• Coordinating the picking, packing and dispatch of customer orders

• Assisting with delivery arrangements and keeping customers informed about their orders

• Receiving, replenishing and merchandising stock

• Monitoring stock availability and reporting shortages or customer demand

• Assisting with stocktakes and inventory control

• Safely loading and unloading customer orders

• Operating a forklift when appropriately licensed and authorised

• Maintaining a clean, safe and well‑presented store, trade counter and storage area

• Following workplace health and safety procedures

• Providing general assistance across the branch as required

About you

To succeed in this position, you will:

• Have strong customer service and relationship-building skills

• Communicate confidently with tradespeople, contractors and retail customers

• Take a practical approach to understanding and solving customer requirements

• Be organised and able to manage several customer requests at once

• Demonstrate accuracy and strong attention to detail

• Be comfortable using point-of-sale, inventory and general computer systems

• Be reliable, punctual and willing to assist in all areas of branch operations

• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• Be able to safely perform the inherent manual‑handling requirements of the position, with reasonable adjustments where required

• Hold a current Australian driver’s licence

• Be available to participate in the required Saturday roster

Previous experience in hardware, building supplies, rural merchandise, tools, construction, trade‑counter sales or a related retail environment will be highly regarded. Product training will be provided to a suitable candidate who demonstrates the right attitude and strong customer service skills.

A current forklift licence is highly desirable.

Hours and roster

This is a permanent full‑time position working an average of 38 ordinary hours per week in accordance with the branch roster.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in a one‑in‑three Saturday roster. Further information about ordinary hours and roster arrangements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
