Job summary

Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, based in North Brisbane, is seeking a Respite Support Officer to implement and deliver respite services for elderly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their carers. You will develop care plans, coordinate services and enhance independence and participation in the community.

Role requires driving, screening checks, and an aged care qualification. The team emphasises culturally safe practice and community involvement.

Qualifications

• C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) required.
• Criminal History Check required.
• Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card) required.
• First Aid and CPR Certificate required.
• Minimum Certificate in Aged Care or relevant qualifications required.

Responsibilities

• Develop a Work Plan detailing steps to support respite services.
• Work with clients in line with Client Care Plans.
• Develop and implement programs to build skills for independent living.
• Encourage clients to develop personal, community and social relationships.
• Assist with independence and safety in personal care, health care and hygiene.

About Us?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The focus of IUIH Aged Care team is to work with the local indigenous community and relevant key stakeholders to increase access to comprehensive care and provide well-coordinated, quality in home care services and eligible aged care clients.

About the Role?

As Respite Support Worker, your role is to implement and provide a program of respite services support activities to designated elderly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (and their carers), in line with Client Care Plans. The position will contribute to program development and review, ensuring elderly people have access to the most effective mix of services available, and that service provision is adequately coordinated and meets program objectives.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

• Develop a Work Plan that details the steps and actions required to support a program of respite services to clients.
• Work actively with clients in line with Client Care Plans.
• Develop and implement programs to develop skills and abilities so they are able to make decisions affecting their lives, live as independently as possible and to help them participate in the community.
• Encourage clients to develop personal, community and social relationships.
• Help them develop and maintain independence and safety in personal care, health care and hygiene (such as eating, dressing, toileting and bathing).

About You?

• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
• Current Criminal History Check
• Current Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card)
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Minimum Certificate in Aged Care or relevant qualifications

Desirable, but not mandatory:

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
