Job summary

Dubbo Regional Council invites applications for a Resource Recovery Education & Compliance Coordinator on a fixed-term contract through to 30 June 2028. You’ll lead education and compliance initiatives to shape how our communities think about waste, recycling and sustainability.

You’ll deliver education programs, drive the rollout of FOGO services across three councils, conduct audits and compliance activities, and build strong partnerships to reduce contamination and boost regional waste

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Waste Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Education, Teaching or a related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering waste education and sustainability programs.
• Knowledge of NSW waste legislation, EPA guidelines, FOGO requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience in compliance monitoring, reporting, audits, project coordination and budget management.
• Current Working with Children Check.

As the Resource Recovery Education & Compliance Coordinator, you'll play a leading role in shaping how communities think about waste, recycling and sustainability. Working across Dubbo Regional Council, Narromine Shire Council and Mid-Western Regional Council, you'll build education programs, drive behaviour change and support the successful rollout of Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) services.

Every conversation, campaign and initiative you lead will help reduce waste, improve recycling outcomes and create a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come. You’ll make an impact by:

• Developing and delivering innovative education programs and campaigns that inspire residents, schools and businesses to reduce waste and recycle correctly

• Leading community engagement activities that support the rollout of FOGO services and drive lasting behaviour change across three local government areas

• Conducting waste audits, bin inspections and compliance activities to improve participation and reduce contamination in kerbside collection services.

• Building strong relationships with community groups, schools, businesses, contractors and Council teams to achieve regional waste diversion goals

• Using data, insights and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery, inform decision-making and maximise environmental outcomes

What you’ll bring

To thrive in this role, you will need:

• Tertiary qualifications in Waste Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Education, Teaching or a related discipline relevant to waste education and compliance.

• Proven experience developing and delivering waste education, recycling, reuse or sustainability programs that drive positive environmental outcomes.

• Knowledge of NSW waste legislation, EPA guidelines, FOGO requirements and Council waste service operations

• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviour change across diverse audiences.

• Experience in compliance monitoring, reporting, audits, project coordination and budget management.

• Current Working with Children Check

We would also love you to have:

• Experience delivering presentations, workshops or training programs that encourage positive behaviour change

• Experience working collaboratively across multiple organisations, councils or regional partnerships.

• Knowledge of circular economy principles and contemporary resource recovery initiatives.

• Cert IV Government Investigations (or Willing to Obtain)

This position offers an attractive annual salary ranging from $91,698 to $106.566 plus superannuation
