Job summary

Kyogle Council is seeking a Motivated Resource Recovery Officer to join our Planning and Community Development team. Based at the Kyogle Waste Facility, you will support the Senior Resource Recovery Officer in coordinating waste management operations.

You will supervise staff and contractors, operate the Kyogle landfill weighbridge and associated computer systems, assist with environmental monitoring and EPL compliance, and contribute to waste surveys and reporting.

Kyogle Council is seeking a motivated and dedicated Resource Recovery Officer to join our Planning and Community Development team.

Based at the Kyogle Waste Facility, with work also undertaken at the Woodenbong, Bonalbo and Mallanganee transfer stations, this role provides an opportunity to play an important part in the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible delivery of Council’s waste management services.

• Generous salary starting Grade 5 $70,038.80 pa – Grade 6 $86,257.60 pa dependant on experience
• Flexible working arrangements, 76 hours per fortnight (9 day rotating roster, including weekend work)
• Contribute to the sustainability and waste management initiatives of the local community

Position Overview

As a Resource Recovery Officer, you will support the Senior Resource Recovery Officer in coordinating Council’s waste management operations and resources.

You will provide frontline leadership at Council’s waste facilities, supervise staff and contractors, operate the Kyogle landfill weighbridge, assist with environmental monitoring and reporting, and ensure facilities are maintained to a high standard and operate safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements.

This is a career-graded position, providing opportunities for progression as you develop your skills, qualifications and experience in waste management and resource recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the coordination of Council’s waste management facilities and resources to ensure safe, efficient and effective operations.
• Supervise waste facility staff, contractors and members of the public, ensuring activities are undertaken safely and effectively.
• Operate the Kyogle landfill weighbridge and associated computer systems, maintain accurate records and collect fees and charges.
• Assist with environmental monitoring and compliance with the facility’s Environment Protection Licence (EPL) and environmental management requirements.
• Operate small and large items of plant and equipment safely and efficiently, including loaders, compactors, forklifts and hook/lift trucks where appropriately licensed or competent.
• Maintain waste facilities and surrounding areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
• Assist with resource recovery reporting, waste surveys, environmental monitoring and other internal and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Assist with reviewing and improving waste management policies, procedures and operational practices.
• Assist with grant applications and waste management projects.
• Respond to enquiries and provide information to members of the public visiting Council’s waste facilities.
• Participate in regional and state waste management meetings and collaborate with other waste management professionals to improve outcomes.
• Assist compliance officers with illegal dumping and animal control matters when required.
• Promote and maintain a positive team culture focused on safety, performance, continuous improvement and quality customer service.
