Job summary

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to high-performance, secure, accessible digital products across desktop and mobile. You will develop complex, reusable components, document your work, and deliver within budget and deadlines.

The role emphasizes best practices in performance, security, SEO, and accessibility, with opportunities to influence development standards.

Qualifications

Experience building scalable, secure, accessible web experiences.
Advanced front-end skills with React and TypeScript; Next.js experience.
Knowledge of selecting and using modern frameworks and tools.
Extensive automated testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end.
Experience with at least one server-side language, preferably Node.js.
Experience with the web release process, CI/CD, production monitoring, and post-release stakeholder collaboration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to share ideas and knowledge across teams.
Desirable: experience with audience-facing video/media delivery systems.

Responsibilities

Analyze, design and develop complex, reusable components and features for ABC digital properties.
Produce high-quality technical documentation for all development work.
Deliver high-quality product development within agreed timeframes and budgets.
Maintain awareness of best practices for web performance, security, SEO, and accessibility; identify opportunities for improvement.
Contribute to development standards and best practices to raise overall code quality.
