Job summary

Calvary Mater Newcastle is seeking an experienced Clinical Coder to join the Health Information Services team. You will review, interpret and accurately code inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM, ACHI and Australian Coding Standards to support DRG assignment and ABF outcomes.

You will work in a supportive team, providing advanced coding expertise across a broad clinical casemix, contributing to coding quality improvement, clinical documentation, auditing and education activities.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of ICD-10AM & ACHI coding qualification with Australian coding experience.
• Medical terminology skills and proven attention to detail.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and knowledge of hospital-based information systems.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and communicate effectively.
• Proven ability to work unsupervised, as a member of a team and meet throughput targets.
• Commitment to confidentiality, privacy principles and Calvary's Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and organisation requirements.
• Ensure coded data is complete, accurate and timely and reflective of the documented episode of care, supporting DRG and ABF outcomes.
• Achieve agreed coding throughput and productivity benchmarks while managing workloads and deadlines.
• Participate in coding education, quality review and service improvement activities, reviewing PICQ reports and audit findings.
• Maintain confidentiality, privacy and information security in line with legislation and policies.
