Job summary

Jobgether, on behalf of a partner company, is seeking a Cloud Efficiency Engineer (AWS/FinOps) based in Australia. You’ll own cloud efficiency end-to-end, tracing AWS costs to technical drivers, building cost models, and identifying opportunities to improve margins.

This is a hands-on role partnering with engineering, platform, data, and Finance to balance cost, reliability, and performance in a large-scale, remote-first SaaS environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering meaningful AWS cost savings in a scaled production environment.
• Strong hands-on engineering background with ability to read/write code and implement production changes.
• Strong systems-diagnosis and analytical skills to identify precise technical cost drivers.
• Solid understanding of AWS infrastructure, cloud economics, and production systems costs.
• Strong commercial and technical judgement to avoid reliability or user-experience risks.
• Experience influencing and collaborating with engineering teams to deliver cross-functional improvements.
• Strong numerical and analytical discipline with defensible cost calculations.
• Experience with Datadog or observability cost optimisation is highly desirable.
• FinOps engineering experience or partnership with Finance on unit economics/cost modelling is advantageous.
• Experience building granular cost attribution systems or cost-visibility tooling is a plus.
• Experience with GraphQL at scale, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, SaaS platforms, or observability products is beneficial.
• Experience in a scaled SaaS/tech environment with a significant AWS footprint is advantageous.
• A finance/business background alongside strong engineering experience would be valuable.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills to translate complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Trace cloud cost signals to underlying technical causes across customer-level costs, state-machine changes, and per-operation economics.
• Build and maintain detailed cost models for common and high-cost operations to understand margin impact.
• Analyse cost trends, identify optimisation opportunities, and prioritise initiatives based on savings, risk, and effort.
• Implement safe AWS and infrastructure optimisations within ownership boundaries.
• Partner with engineering teams to drive large optimisation initiatives with measurable outcomes.
• Lead efficiency improvements across Datadog and observability tooling alongside AWS to reduce costs without losing visibility.
• Establish cost baselines and verify realized savings in production after changes.
• Build guardrails, attribution mechanisms, alerting, and cost-visibility tooling to catch regressions.
• Translate technical questions into financial analysis and present results to stakeholders.
• Maintain focus on cost optimisation without compromising reliability, performance, or customer experience.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis while validating outputs.
