Job summary

Hydro Tasmania is seeking a hands-on power station operator to monitor and optimise Tamar Valley's CCGT, OCGT, HRSG, WTP and steam turbine systems. This permanent full-time role requires working on a 24/7 roster to sustain safe, reliable generation across the asset fleet.

Based at Tamar Valley operations, you will mentor team members, coordinate contractors, maintain logs and reports, and contribute to Tasmania's energy future.

Qualifications

• Turbine and boiler operator competency, including HV switching and generator control.
• Experience in thermal power generation and gas turbine operations.
• Leadership capability with hazardous area qualifications and high‑risk licenses (Forklift, EWP, Heights) viewed favourably.
• Confined space, gas testing, first aid and LV rescue certifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate and optimise CCGT, OCGT, HRSG, WTP and steam turbine systems.
• Maintain safe and reliable plant operations on a rotating 24/7 roster.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on critical assets.
• Diagnose faults and implement effective technical solutions.
• Coordinate contractors and monitor WHS compliance.
• Prepare operational logs, reports and technical documentation.
• Support and mentor team members to strengthen operational capability.
