About Energy Solutions

Our Energy Solutions team is leading Ampol’s response to the energy transition - developing lower carbon solutions for customers and reducing our own emissions. We’re investing in future-focused technologies and services, from EV charging and hydrogen to carbon offsets and biofuels.

This is where bold ideas meet real-world execution. We work across geographies and capabilities to help shape a low carbon future - making the energy transition easier for customers and communities.

About the role

Location: Sydney (Alexandria) preferred; also open to Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland or Wellington.

Temporary full-time, two-year contract.

Reporting to the Head of Asset Operations, the Reliability Manager leads the maintenance and reliability performance of Energy Solutions assets across Australia and New Zealand. You will set the strategy, priorities, standards and governance that help keep a growing portfolio of EV charging, solar and battery assets safe, compliant, available, reliable and commercially sustainable.

This is a leadership role that combines strategic asset management with practical operational oversight. You will lead the Reliability Team, partner with internal stakeholders and service providers, and use performance data to drive continuous improvement across planned and reactive maintenance.

Key responsibilities
  • Own and evolve maintenance and reliability strategy, standards, programmes and governance across Energy Solutions assets in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Set priorities, performance expectations and decision frameworks for planned and reactive reliability activities.
  • Monitor and improve asset safety, uptime, session reliability, failure trends, repeat faults and maintenance compliance.
  • Lead medium and long-term asset strategies and lifecycle plans, including priorities and investment recommendations.
  • Set incident-management, escalation and problem-solving frameworks for material or recurring asset issues.
  • Own contractor, supplier and OEM performance frameworks across safety, quality, response times, service delivery and whole-of-life cost.
  • Ensure asset registers and maintenance data are complete, accurate and governed to support safe, compliant and cost-effective operations.
  • Be accountable for budgets, forecasts, accruals, purchase orders, cost management and operational reporting within approved delegations.
  • Lead, coach and create clear accountability across the Reliability Team, establishing KPIs, service levels and governance rhythms.
  • Partner with Engineering, Risk, Deployment, Commercial, Finance and the wider Energy Value Chain to support commissioning, handover, business planning and portfolio priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline such as Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering are preferred.
  • 7+ years’ experience in Engineering Services or Facilities Maintenance, with demonstrated people-leadership experience.
  • Experience developing strategy, governance and performance frameworks across commercial, compliance, process and systems requirements.
  • Proven ability to identify and drive change through structured continuous-improvement programs.
  • Experience governing programs, projects or business-improvement initiatives delivered through internal teams and service partners.
  • Strong management reporting, analytical and data-driven decision-making capability, including systematic problem solving and root-cause analysis.
  • Solid understanding of procurement, contract management, contractor performance, project delivery and risk-based maintenance principles.
  • Working knowledge of risk engineering, risk management, safety, compliance and operational excellence requirements.
  • Experience with reliability or operational leadership involving electrical and mechanical assets; EV charging, solar, battery or high-voltage exposure is highly desirable.
  • Financial-management experience across budgeting, forecasting, accruals, cost control, variance analysis and monthly performance reporting is desirable.
  • Our total remuneration is competitive.
  • We are flexible. Many of our teams have embraced hybrid work, balancing time spent remote working, with time spent at an office to connect and work together where it adds value.
  • We value recognition. We have an internal recognition platform amplifying the achievements of those who do great work and demonstrate our capabilities and values.
  • Career development and learning opportunities including LinkedIn Learning and other tailored training solutions.

We’re an equal opportunity workplace. We not only embrace diversity and inclusion; we celebrate what makes you unique.
