Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is seeking a Registered Nurse to support donor services at the Parramatta Donor Centre and Donor Mobile Unit in New South Wales. You will deliver welcoming, patient-centered care and help ensure a steady supply of blood products.

You will interview donors, provide clinical oversight, perform routine tests, and assist with set-up and procedures. Flexible, rotating shifts and a requirement for AHPRA registration apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and current AHPRA registration.
• Willingness to work varied shifts including weekends and afternoons.
• Ability to lift 9-22.7 kg and stand/walk/bend to set up and pack down equipment.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interview potential donors to assess eligibility.
• Provide clinical oversight and guide team members in the donation process.
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests.
• Set up machines and collections equipment.
• Insert and remove needles to collect whole blood, plasma and platelets.
• Manage adverse donor reactions with instructions and assistance.
• Monitor donors post-donation and rebook for next donation.

As a Registered Nurse, you will bring your fantastic customer-facing skills and passion to deliver an exceptional service, while working together to ensure Australia’s supply of blood products.

A day in the centre could see you:

• Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
• Provide clinical oversight and guide other team members in the blood collection process
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
• Set up machines and collections equipment
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
• Manage adverse donor reactions by providing instructions and physical assistance
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation

Our paid and flexible self-paced training program has a balance between on-the-job practice and online class schedules to ensure that you are well supported. Besides having a real passion to deliver an exceptional donor experience, you’ll need to be able to:

• Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
• Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
• Utilise your expertise having completed a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and hold a current AHPRA registration
• Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
• Have your own vehicle and driver's licence
