Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in Maroochydore is seeking a Registered Nurse to support donor care and blood collection services. You will greet donors, assess eligibility, provide clinical guidance, and operate collection equipment in a people-focused environment.

A strong customer-facing approach is essential, with duty to maintain product supply across Australia. The role involves rotating shifts, possible weekend work, and on-site responsibilities in Queensland.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and current AHPRA registration.
• Experience in blood collection or clinical setting is advantageous.
• Willingness to work a rotating roster including weekends and afternoons.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interview potential donors to assess eligibility.
• Provide clinical oversight and guide team in blood collection.
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests.
• Set up machines and collections equipment.
• Insert and remove needles safely for whole blood, plasma and platelets.
• Manage adverse donor reactions with instructions and assistance.
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist with rebooking.

As a Registered Nurse, you will bring your fantastic customer-facing skills and passion to deliver an exceptional service, while working together to ensure Australia’s supply of blood products.

A day in the centre could see you:

• Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
• Provide clinical oversight and guide other team members in the blood collection process
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
• Set up machines and collections equipment
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
• Manage adverse donor reactions by providing instructions and physical assistance
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation

Our paid and flexible self-paced training program has a balance between on-the-job practice and online class schedules to ensure that you are well supported. Besides having a real passion to deliver an exceptional donor experience, you’ll need to be able to:

• Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
• Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
• Utilise your expertise having completed a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and hold a current AHPRA registration
• Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
• Have your own vehicle and driver's licence. If applicable
