Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in Chermside, QLD, is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Chermside Donor Centre. This permanent part-time role features rotating shifts across Monday to Sunday and opportunities to support mobile donor units across Brisbane.

You will greet and interview donors, provide clinical oversight of the donation process, perform routine tests, operate equipment, manage adverse reactions, and help donors rebook for future donations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) with AHPRA registration.
• Flexible to work varied shifts Monday–Sunday, including weekends.
• Own a vehicle and driver’s licence, if applicable.
• Ability to lift 9–22.7 kg and stand/walk/bend during duties.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interview potential donors to assess eligibility.
• Provide clinical oversight and guide the donation team.
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests.
• Set up machines and blood collection equipment.
• Insert and remove needles safely for blood collection.
• Manage adverse donor reactions with instructions and assistance.
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist with rebooking.

As a Registered Nurse, you will bring your fantastic customer-facing skills and passion to deliver an exceptional service, while working together to ensure Australia’s supply of blood products.

A day in the centre could see you:

• Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
• Provide clinical oversight and guide other team members in the blood collection process
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
• Set up machines and collections equipment
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
• Manage adverse donor reactions by providing instructions and physical assistance
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation

Variety in your workday
Based from our Chermside Donor Centre, you'll also support our mobile donor centres across Brisbane. This provides the opportunity to work in a range of locations, meet different donor communities, and make a meaningful impact across the region. Mobile unit locations may include Cannon Hill, Newstead, Kenmore, Fortitude Valley, Ashgrove, Carina, Fairfield, Queensland Children's Hospital, Herston, Oxley, Milton, Eagle Farm and St Lucia.

Our paid and flexible self-paced training program has a balance between on-the-job practice and online class schedules to ensure that you are well supported. Besides having a real passion to deliver an exceptional donor experience, you’ll need to be able to:

• Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
• Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
• Utilise your expertise having completed a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and hold a current AHPRA registration
• Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
• Have your own vehicle and driver's licence. If applicable
