Job summary

Cook Shire Council is seeking a senior leader to take the helm of Water and Waste services, guiding an experienced team across water, wastewater, waste, and electrical maintenance. Based in Cooktown, you will drive asset management, regulatory compliance, and long-term planning with a strong commercial focus.

Your role spans strategy, budgeting and external engagement, including Regulators and Councillors, to deliver reliable essential services for the community and surrounding regions.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience across water, wastewater and/or waste services.
• Strong asset lifecycle, renewal and capital planning capability.
• Commercial and financial acumen, including responsibility for significant operating budgets and business cases.
• Sound knowledge of relevant regulatory and environmental requirements.
• Experience leading people through change and improving established ways of working.
• Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear recommendations for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead essential water, wastewater and waste services across a broad regional footprint.
• Oversee an operating budget of approximately $9.3 million.
• Direct asset management, regulatory compliance and long-term service planning.
• Build robust business cases and connect infrastructure needs with funding decisions.
• Lead, mentor and get the best from an experienced team across Cooktown and surrounding areas.
