QSD Pty Ltd in Hervey Bay, QLD is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team. The role offers flexible hours—part-time, full-time or casual—to suit the right applicant, with work across commercial and industrial cooling systems.

You will be hands-on with maintenance, servicing and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, diagnosing faults, reading drawings and ensuring safe, compliant operation on site.

Qualifications

• Certificate III or IV in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
• Current refrigeration licence and valid driver’s licence.
• Experience as Refrigeration Mechanic in residential, commercial or industrial environments.
• Ability to read diagnostics and use testing equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical controls for refrigeration equipment.
• Knowledge of refrigerant handling regulations and environmental compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Professional communication and customer‑focused service.
• Physical fitness for manual labour and varied conditions (heights, confined spaces).
• Commitment to workplace safety and best practice standards.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programmes is preferred.

This position is flexible - either part-time, full-time or casual to suit the right applicant offering the opportunity to work on a variety of refrigeration and air conditioning systems across commercial and industrial applications. As a Refrigeration Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining, servicing, and repairing cooling systems that are essential to our clients' operations. This role offers hands‑on technical work combined with customer interaction, making it ideal for someone who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and reliable service.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration and air conditioning systems for commercial and industrial clients
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in cooling systems using appropriate testing equipment and tools
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and longevity
• Charge, recover, and recycle refrigerants in compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards
• Read and interpret technical drawings and system specifications
• Complete detailed job reports and maintain accurate service records for all work undertaken
• Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations

What we're looking for

• A recognised qualification in refrigeration and air conditioning (such as a Certificate III or IV in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning)
• Current refrigeration licence and valid driver's licence
• Demonstrated experience working as a Refrigeration Mechanic in residential, commercial, or industrial environments
• Competency in using diagnostic tools, gauges, and testing equipment
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and controls relevant to refrigeration equipment
• Knowledge of current legislation regarding refrigerant handling and environmental compliance
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Professional communication skills and a customer-focused approach to service delivery
• Physical fitness to perform manual labour and work in varied conditions, including heights and confined spaces
• A commitment to workplace safety and adherence to best practice standards
• Preferably, experience with preventative maintenance programmes and familiarity with common commercial refrigeration systems
