Job summary

City of Stirling is seeking an experienced Team Leader Ranger to lead a team delivering visible and professional community safety services. The role combines leadership with hands-on animal management, enforcement of Local Laws and state legislation, and a focus on service excellence for residents.

You will report to the Coordinator Ranger and Patrol Services, drive performance, and build strong partnerships with the community and external agencies.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Municipal Law Enforcement or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in Local Government law enforcement, investigations and prosecutions.
• Demonstrated experience leading and coaching operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of Local Government legislation and compliance practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Sound problem-solving ability and professional judgement.
• Experience in animal management and handling.
• Current C Class Driver's Licence.
• National Police Clearance or ability to obtain.

Reporting to the Coordinator Ranger and Patrol Services, you will lead and support a team responsible for the administration and enforcement of State legislation, Local Laws and community safety initiatives. You will provide leadership, coaching and operational direction while maintaining a strong customer focus and commitment to service excellence and positive community outcomes.

You’ll also play a hands-on role in supporting safe, responsible and compassionate animal management across the City. From caring for impounded animals and helping reunite pets with their owners, to supporting registrations, compliance and rehoming outcomes, your work will make a visible difference to animals, residents and the wider community.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Rangers.
• Managing team performance, rostering and operational priorities.
• Providing expert advice on complex ranger, compliance and community safety matters.
• Leading investigations and enforcement activities under relevant legislation and Local Laws.
• Reviewing investigation files and prosecution recommendations.
• Coordinating responses to animal management issues including dangerous dogs, dog attacks, nuisance complaints and animal welfare concerns.
• Providing support and guidance on the capture, impoundment and management of stray, unregistered and aggressive animals.
• Overseeing compliance with the Dog Act, Cat Act and associated regulations.
• Managing complex community safety and animal-related enquiries from residents and stakeholders.
• Supporting emergency management and Fire Control Officer duties during critical incidents.
• Monitoring service delivery outcomes and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Building positive relationships with community members, external agencies and key stakeholders.

Qualifications

About You

You are an experienced Local Government Ranger with strong leadership capability and a passion for delivering positive community outcomes.

To be successful, you will possess:

• Certificate in Municipal Law Enforcement (or equivalent)
• Extensive experience in Local Government law enforcement, investigations and prosecutions
• Demonstrated experience leading and coaching operational teams
• Strong knowledge of relevant Local Government legislation and compliance practices
• Highly developed communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise professional judgement
• Experience in animal management and handling
• Current C Class Driver's Licence
• National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain).
