Job summary

MidCoast Council in Taree NSW is seeking a Ranger - General Duties to help keep our coastal communities safe and well cared for. You will engage with the public, provide education and guidance, and ensure fair application of regulations across parks, beaches, and streets.

The role requires a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and/or Rangers 1 & 2 (or willingness to obtain), a Class C Driver Licence, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work autonomously while being a supportive team player.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with the local community, provide education and guidance, and support the fair application of Council policies and legislation.
  • Provide education and regulatory services in areas such as dog control, parking and unlawful camping, littering and vehicles on beaches, and impounding.
  • Think on your feet, problem-solve, and adapt to new challenges while delivering exceptional customer service.

In this role, you will:

You'll be at the heart of the community, providing education and regulatory services in areas such as:

  • Dog control and animal management
  • Parking and unlawful camping
  • Littering and vehicles on beaches
  • Straying stock, overgrown properties, abandoned vehicles, and impounding

Every day will be different - thinking on your feet, problem-solving, and adapting to new challenges will be part of your routine. You'll play a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-informed community while providing exceptional customer service.

What you'll bring

You thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and are ready to take on responsibility with confidence. You'll have:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and/or Rangers 1 & 2, or a willingness to obtain these qualifications
  • Experience in local government regulatory services and a sound understanding of relevant legislation (highly desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
  • The ability to work autonomously while being a supportive team player
  • A Class C Driver Licence.

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you'll be required to complete a pre-employment medical check (this will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component)

Salary: Commencing salary circa $77,740 p.a. plus superannuation (dependent on skills and experience)

A "to and from" use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
