Osborne Richardson is assisting Melton City Council in its search for two Rangers (Community Safety Officers) to join its Ranger Services team on a contract basis — capable, community-minded officers who can balance education with fair and consistent enforcement.

You’ll work across one of Australia’s fastest-growing municipalities, delivering a broad range of compliance functions under Council's Local Laws and relevant legislation, including animal management, parking control, litter and fire prevention.

No two days are the same in this role. You'll respond to complaints, patrol the municipality, inspect animal facilities and help residents find practical resolutions, all while representing Council professionally in sometimes challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance, advice and assistance to residents, ratepayers and visitors on compliance matters
  • Respond promptly to and investigate complaints, providing appropriate customer feedback
  • Patrol the municipality to ensure compliance with legislation, issuing notices where necessary
  • Monitor and enforce legislation relating to parking, animal management, litter and fire prevention
  • Conduct inspections and audits of animal-related facilities and restricted breed premises
  • Approve and sign infringements, notices to comply and correspondence in line with procedures
  • Accurately record all activities and update Council systems on a task-by-task basis
  • Report equipment, signage and infrastructure that requires attention or does not meet safety standards
  • Provide guidance to casual or temporary staff assigned for training or support
About You
  • A Certificate IV in Statutory Compliance (Government) and Animal Control and Regulation with relevant experience, or a degree or diploma
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Road Safety Act and Road Rules, Domestic Animals Act, Summary Offences Act, Infringements Act, Local Government Act, Environment Protection Act and Impounding of Livestock Act
  • Ability to prepare detailed briefs of evidence and represent Council in court proceedings, with knowledge of Magistrates' Court procedures
  • Demonstrated empathy and the ability to manage and diffuse conflict
  • Strong time management skills, with the flexibility to respond to urgent situations
  • Confidence in animal handling in line with current workplace practices
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
