Job description

About ARTC

We’re one of the country’s largest rail network owners, proud to be keeping the future of transport on track. A vital link in the nation's transport supply chain, every day our people manage the movement of over 415 freight and passenger trains across five states, 9,600km of track, 39 worksites and the lands of more than 50 First Nations. Rail isn’t just a mode of transport, it's a safer and more environmentally friendly choice. We're committed to expanding and modernising our rail network, having invested billions of dollars to ensure its efficiency and sustainability. Join us and be part of a team that’s shaping the future of transport in Australia.

About The Opportunity

We’re seeking safety-focused, hardworking and motivated individuals to join our team. This is your opportunity to build a long-term career in the rail industry — whether you’re experienced or just starting out. Rail Labourers are responsible for the hands-on maintenance and upkeep of ARTC’s rail network. This includes carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance activities, as well as supporting minor construction works associated with planned capital upgrades. In this role, you will perform a range of tasks including general labouring, track maintenance, safety protection duties, detailed visual inspections of rail infrastructure, operating heavy machinery, welding, and other specialised maintenance activities — all while adhering to ARTC’s strict safety and quality standards. No rail experience? No problem. If you bring the right attitude and work ethic, we’ll provide a structured training program designed to equip you with the knowledge, certifications and practical skills you need to succeed.

What do we want from you?
  • Valid driver's licence with the ability to confidently drive a manual vehicle.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and travel extensively, spending approximately 80% of the time away from home.
  • Be based in Kalgoorlie, as this is not a DIDO/FIFO position. Comfortable working rotating rosters, typically 10-on/4-off or 9-on/5-off, with a transition to a 14-on/7-off roster during periods of high travel.
  • Able to stay in employer-provided rest house accommodation while travelling and independently manage meal preparation.
  • Experience in the civil, rail, or plant industries is advantageous but not essential.
Why Join Us?
  • Work outdoors as part of a supportive, close-knit team
  • Gain practical, in-demand skills across track maintenance, machinery operation and welding
  • Access a structured training and development program
  • Start or grow your career in the rail industry
  • Be part of essential infrastructure that keeps Australia moving
