Job summary

Q-CTRL's Quantum Sensing Research team in Sydney is hiring to develop next-generation, small-form-factor quantum magnetometers that operate in harsh fielded environments. You will design quantum control schemes and software-layer controls for optically pumped atomic magnetometers and implement advanced statistical filtering to improve real-world performance.

You will write simulations in Python, analyze time series data, and collaborate with the Quantum Sensing Team and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Experience with high-precision magnetometry.
• Experience with theory, numerical modelling and/or optimisation of atomic spin ensembles or quantum sensing.
• Knowledge of Kalman and particle filtering.
• Experience in time and frequency digital signal processing (adaptive filtering, Kalman filtering, matched filtering).
• Experience contributing to a software system architecture with multiple components developed by different teams, following best-practice software development.

Responsibilities

• Develop quantum control algorithms to improve sensitivity and robustness of optically pumped magnetometers.
• Use statistical techniques such as Kalman and particle filters to improve sensitivity and reduce noise.
• Perform time-series analysis and develop environmental noise compensation techniques using DSP and machine learning methods.
• Write simulations of atomic systems to explain and guide experiments.
• Develop, document, and review high-quality Python software.
• Collaborate with the Quantum Sensing Team, the Quantum Sensing Division, and the company more broadly.
• Share insights into control-augmented quantum sensing with internal and external stakeholders through presentations and reports.
