Job summary

Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) is hiring software engineers for Compiler Services to build the compiler that drives our quantum processors. You will work on logical-to-physical compilation, optimization passes, and integration with the control plane at our Sydney facility.

You will collaborate with quantum information scientists and the QEC theory team, owning a stage end-to-end and translating research papers into implementable designs for real hardware.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in software engineering with production work on a compiler, solver, optimiser or similar system.
• Strong CS fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, complexity, and heuristics.
• Graph algorithms with good approximation judgement under constraints.
• Proficiency in Rust or C++ and Python.
• Compiler construction: IRs, passes, rewriting, dataflow analysis.
• Ability to prove transformation correctness via equivalence checking or testing.
• Knowledge of quantum circuit models and hardware costs relevant to compilers.
• Ability to read research papers and discuss requirements with scientists.
• Experience with Git workflows, CI, and reliable testing.
• Clear technical writing and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Build and own stages of the compilation pipeline from logical circuit to physical placement.
• Implement optimization passes that reduce gates, depth, and error rates on real hardware.
• Align with SQC ISA and evolve the compiler as hardware evolves.
• Solve placement and routing across wafers and chiplets under connectivity and timing constraints.
• Implement lattice surgery, bi-layer, and future error-correction schemes with the QEC team.
• Incorporate noise models and calibration data into compilation outputs.
• Develop transpiler paths from OpenQASM to pulse-level instructions for sub-200 qubit devices.
• Verify correctness of transformations via equivalence checking and differential testing.
• Benchmark compiler output across fidelity, depth, runtime and compile time.
• Collaborate with Control & Error Correction on the executable contract between compiler and control plane.
• Design intermediate representations and document passes for future engineers.
