Quality Engineer - Exploratory Testing

Job summary

Nuix is seeking a curious Quality Engineer to join our exploratory testing practice in Sydney, focusing on high-risk areas across Investigate, Discover, Enrich/NLP, Neo, Engine and more.

You'll work with the Senior QE to execute structured exploratory sessions, document bugs with clear steps in Jira, and contribute to cross-product coverage using Postman, Zephyr Scale and CI pipelines. Hybrid work with three days in the Sydney office.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years in Quality Engineering, QA, or Software Testing
• Curiosity-driven mindset — you naturally ask "what happens if...?"
• Basic automation skills in any language
• API testing fundamentals (Postman or similar)
• Experience with Jira or similar issue tracking tools
• Strong written communication — ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports
• Eagerness to learn multiple products and domains quickly

Responsibilities

• Exploratory Test Execution: Execute structured exploratory test sessions across Nuix products using SBTM charters and heuristics defined by the Senior QE.
• Risk-Prioritized Cross-Product Coverage: Work across product teams focusing on high defect-escape areas and upcoming releases.
• Bug Documentation: Document bugs with clear reproduction steps, severity, and business impact in Jira.
• Core Tooling: Learn and use the QE tooling stack — Postman, CI pipelines, Zephyr Scale.
• Test Suite Contribution: Contribute to smoke/sanity test suites and support Zephyr data uplift and test case creation.
• 3 Amigos Participation: Participate in grooming/planning sessions with Dev and Product to embed quality thinking early.
• Gap Tracking: Flag gaps in test coverage and feed findings into the QE Gap Analysis tracker.
• Continuous Learning: Develop exploratory testing skills through mentorship and workshops.

Role Overview

Nuix is looking for a curious, detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our exploratory testing practice. Working alongside our Senior QE, you'll execute structured exploratory testing sessions across the Nuix product portfolio — prioritized based on risk and business need.

This is a cross-product role where you'll build domain knowledge across Investigate, Discover, Enrich/NLP, Neo, Engine, and more — focusing on the highest-risk areas first. If you love breaking things, asking \"what if?\", and finding bugs that automation can't catch — this role is for you.

Location

This position will be based in our Sydney office. The candidate is required to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week but may voluntarily elect to work either remotely or from the Sydney office for the remaining 2 days of the week.

Key Responsibilities

• Exploratory Test Execution: Execute structured exploratory test sessions across Nuix products using SBTM charters and heuristics defined by the Senior QE.
• Risk-Prioritized Cross-Product Coverage: Work across product teams based on the same risk-prioritized model as the Senior QE — focusing on products with the highest defectescape rates, upcoming releases, or critical coverage gaps.
• Bug Documentation: Document bugs, risks, and observations with clear reproduction steps, severity assessments, and business impact in Jira.
• Core Tooling: Learn and use the QE tooling stack — Postman, CI pipelines, Zephyr Scale.
• Test Suite Contribution: Contribute to smoke/sanity test suites and support Zephyr data uplift and test case creation.
• 3 Amigos Participation: Participate in combined grooming/planning sessions with Dev and Product to embed quality thinking early in the SDLC.
• Gap Tracking: Flag gaps in test coverage and feed findings into the QE Gap Analysis tracker.
• Continuous Learning: Actively develop exploratory testing skills through mentorship from the Senior QE, workshops, and self-directed learning.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• 1–3 years in Quality Engineering, QA, or Software Testing roles

• Curiosity-driven mindset — you naturally ask \"what happens if...?\"

• Basic automation skills in any language

• API testing fundamentals (Postman or similar)

• Experience with Jira or similar issue tracking tools

• Strong written communication — ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports
