Job summary

A W Edwards, a leading NSW commercial building contractor, is seeking a permanent Quality Engineer/Coordinator to join this renowned Australian builder and work on major commercial projects throughout Sydney.

This full-time, permanent role will manage site quality assurance and control activities to meet and exceed project quality requirements, with responsibilities spanning audits, documentation, NCR/CAR handling and collaboration with the project team.

Qualifications

  • Related tertiary education within Engineering, Science, Quality, Construction Management or Quality Auditing.
  • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills with stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Satisfy Project Management Plan responsibilities and input requirements.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures and plans, monitor compliance.
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Prepare and review Quality Management Plans, Inspections, Test Plans and Reports.
  • Maintain NCRs, CARs and ensure corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor site QA activities and provide root cause analysis support.

Your Role as a Quality Engineer/Coordinator

This full-time, permanent position will primarily be responsible for managing obligations and responsibilities on all relevant site quality assurance and quality control activities to meet and strive to exceed project specific contractual and quality requirements

Main Remit
  • Satisfy Project Management Plan mandatory responsibility and input requirements
  • Provides support and advice regarding Policies, procedures, standards and specifications internally and to external stakeholders
  • Implementation & ongoing maintenance of quality control procedures and plans and monitor compliance.
  • Implementation & maintenance of quality control procedures and plans, and monitor compliance
  • Collaborate with project team and managers to ensure quality standards and objectives are met
  • Prepare and review processes and documentation including Quality Management Plans, Inspections & Test Plans, Checklists, Audit Plans & Reports
  • Implement and maintain Lot Management System, and monitor progressive closure of Work Lots
  • Ensure certificates of conformance and incoming inspection of products are completed prior to their incorporation into the works;
  • Progressive compilation of Quality Assurance and Management documentation into approved format;
  • Conduct quality audits of activities on site, results analysis and performance reporting. Support team members with root cause analysis, corrective actions and close out of issues
  • Ensure accurate records, registers and documents are maintained for the project
  • Assume the role of Visibuild Champion and oversee the implementation and adaptation on the project
  • Develop and recommend inspection and sampling techniques, quality control plans or process improvement or control procedures;
  • Monitor and inspect fabrication / construction process against project specifications, drawings and related codes to ensure finished products meet quality specifications and standards design intent;
  • Monitor Non-Conformances and Non-Conformances Records (NCRs) and take corrective actions to prevent repeat non-conformances
  • Prepare and maintain NCRs and Corrective Action Request (CAR) Register;
  • All defects promptly attended to during the defect liability period
  • Strive to be defect free at completion
  • Strive to exceed industry benchmarks with Quality standards
  • Coordinate external quality-based site inspections and audits on suppliers and/or subcontractors
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure project QA Quality and Assurance requirements are understood by all applicable persons
  • Conduct or facilitate training, when and where required to assist subcontractor and supplier personnel understand their obligations
To be successful in this role, you would require:
  • Related tertiary education within Engineering, Science, Quality, Construction Management or Quality Auditing.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the role of a Quality Engineer successfully contributing to the delivery of projects in the commercial sector in Sydney
  • Ability to problem-solve and respond appropriately to a range of project requirements
  • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills, coupled with stakeholder management skills
  • Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Must be willing to commit to a long-term career, be predominately based on site, and work in the Greater Sydney area
