Job summary

Huon Aquaculture in Devonport seeks a Quality Assurance Officer to uphold food safety, quality, and continuous improvement across our production site. This maximum-term contract lasts up to two years, with an initial full-time six-month period and potential extension or transition to part-time based on business needs.

You will conduct product, water, environmental, and hygiene testing, verify CCPs, and perform internal audits while supporting coaching of Production teams on quality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality assurance in food manufacturing or similar.
• Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety management systems.
• Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and testing.
• Strong attention to detail and proactive problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Conduct product, water, environmental, and hygiene testing activities.
• Monitor and verify CCPs and food safety requirements.
• Carry out factory inspections, GMP checks, and internal audits.
• Monitor hygiene, traceability, packaging, labelling, and cold chain compliance.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration records.
• Investigate non-conformances and support corrective actions.
• Maintain HACCP documentation, quality records, and compliance reporting.
• Lead or support hygiene meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide coaching and guidance to Production teams on quality and food safety standards.
• Promote a culture of food safety, quality and GMPs across the site.

This opportunity is being offered as a maximum-term contract of up to two years, commencing as a full-time position for the first six months, with the possibility of extension and/or transition to a part-time arrangement based on business requirements. What You'll Be Doing

As our Quality Assurance Officer, you will:

• Conduct product, water, environmental, and hygiene testing activities.
• Monitor and verify Critical Control Points (CCPs) and food safety requirements.
• Carry out factory inspections, GMP checks, and internal audits.
• Monitor hygiene, traceability, packaging, labelling, and cold chain compliance.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration records.
• Investigate non-conformances and support customer complaint reviews and corrective actions.
• Maintain HACCP documentation, quality records, and compliance reporting.
• Lead or support hygiene meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide coaching, training, and guidance to Production teams on quality and food safety standards.
• Promote a strong culture of food safety, quality, continuous improvement, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) across the site.

What You'll Bring

• Experience in Quality Assurance, food manufacturing, food processing, or a similar environment (preferred).
• Sound knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety management systems.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Confidence conducting audits, inspections, testing, and compliance activities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and support operational teams.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
• A genuine commitment to food safety, quality, workplace safety, and continuous improvement.
