Job summary

John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. We are recruiting a Quality Advisor to help deliver this iconic project, ideally with exposure to major mechanical packages on large-scale energy, power or industrial projects.

Your responsibilities include developing inspection and sampling techniques, quality control plans, process control procedures, audit reporting and ensuring compliance with the QA management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar, Science, Building, Construction, Quality Management, Project Management.
• 3+ years’ experience as a quality representative on large-scale construction projects, focus on mechanical engineering.
• Experience in developing and implementing project QA management systems.
• Major power station / energy / resources experience advantageous.
• Interest in mentoring and career development within John Holland.

Responsibilities

• Develop and recommend inspection and sampling techniques, quality control plans, process control procedures, testing and analysis procedures.
• Document quality issues and performance measures for management review.
• Assist with implementing the QA System on the project to meet quality objectives.
• Prepare audit reports and propose corrective actions.
• Identify and report quality risks that may affect project delivery.
• Provide technical advice to management on quality-related activities.
• Ensure compliance with reporting procedures.
• Manage non-compliances and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Review subcontractors' quality documentation and QA obligations.
• Attend inspections to ensure works meet design and project requirements.

About the Role

John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in Far North Queensland, approximately 270km north-west of Townsville.

• The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern, waterway shafts and tunnels. This will allow water to be transferred between the upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and returned to the upper reservoir during off-peak periods.
• This project received funding from ARENA as part of ARENA’s Advancing Renewables Program and is a gamechanger for the clean energy industry worldwide, representing an entirely new approach to large-scale energy storage.
• This is a FIFO position and will be on a 2:1 roster.

We are currently recruiting for a talented Quality Advisor to help deliver this iconic project. Ideally, with exposure to major mechanical packages on large-scale energy, power or industrial projects.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Under direction, develop and recommend inspection and sampling techniques, quality control plans, process control procedures, testing and analysis procedures to ensure that products meet specifications and standards
• Document quality issues and performance measures for management review
• Assist with the implementation of the organisational Quality Management System on the project to ensure quality objectives and targets are met
• Prepare audit reports summarising production and quality issues together with recommend corrective actions
• Identify and report quality objectives, requirements, risks and other issues that may adversely impact the surety of successful project delivery to the Quality Manager
• Provide technical advice and assistance to management for quality-related activities
• Understand compliance and reporting procedures and processes
• Manage the reporting of non-compliances and ensure dispositions, remedial solutions and corrective actions are effectively implemented
• Review subcontractors' quality documentation and ensure they fulfil their quality system obligations
• Attend inspections to ensure works are compliant with design and project requirement

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar; Science, Building, Construction, Quality Management, Project Management etc
• Ideally 3+ years’ experience in a quality representative role
• Quality assurance experience gained on large scale construction projects, with a focus on mechanical engineering
• Major power station / energy / resources experience advantageous
• Experience in developing and implementing project QA management systems
