Job summary

ABC Heavy Engineering in Mackay Regional (QLD) is seeking an experienced Purchasing & Warehouse Officer to source mechanical parts, components and consumables, and to take ownership of our brand-new warehouse and inventory system.

You will work closely with workshop and site teams, liaise with suppliers, raise and track purchase orders, perform stocktakes, maintain accurate records, and ensure the warehouse runs safely and efficiently from day one.

Qualifications

• Experience in purchasing, parts, stores or similar industrial environment.
• Sound mechanical knowledge to identify, source and purchase parts.
• Experience in engineering, mining, heavy equipment or similar industry.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.

Put your mechanical knowledge to work and take ownership of our brand-new warehouse

ABC Heavy Engineering is a locally owned and operated engineering company specialising in the manufacture, repair and maintenance of heavy mining equipment for the Mining, Civil, Ports and Agricultural industries.

With our brand-new warehouse nearing completion, we’re looking for an experienced Purchasing & Warehouse Officer to manage the sourcing and purchasing of mechanical parts, components and consumables while taking ownership of our new warehouse and inventory systems.

This isn’t simply a stores role.

We need someone with sound mechanical knowledge who understands what they’re purchasing and is confident sourcing the right parts and components for the job. You’ll work closely with our workshop and site teams, deal directly with suppliers and ensure our people have what they need, when they need it.

You’ll also be organised and methodical, with a strong focus on accurate purchasing, inventory control and keeping the warehouse running efficiently. This is an opportunity to help shape purchasing and warehouse systems from day one.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Sourcing and purchasing mechanical parts, components, tooling and consumables.
• Liaising with suppliers regarding pricing, availability and delivery.
• Ensuring parts ordered are correct and suitable for the intended application.
• Raising and managing purchase orders and following up outstanding orders.
• Receiving, checking and receipting incoming goods.
• Maintaining accurate stock levels and inventory records.
• Monitoring stock and coordinating replenishment requirements.
• Conducting stocktakes and investigating discrepancies.
• Coordinating parts and materials for our workshop and site teams.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe warehouse.

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines mechanical knowledge with a methodical approach to purchasing and inventory control.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• Previous experience in purchasing, parts, stores or a similar industrial environment.
• Sound mechanical knowledge and the ability to identify, source and purchase mechanical parts and components.
• Experience within engineering, mining, heavy equipment or a similar industry.
• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
• A methodical and systematic approach to purchasing and inventory control.
• Good computer skills and accurate record keeping.
• Confidence dealing with suppliers, tradespeople and operational personnel.
• The ability to work independently, prioritise requirements and follow orders through to completion.
• A current High Risk Forklift Licence (preferred).
• A strong commitment to workplace safety.
