Job summary

Austral Construction in Perth is seeking experienced Workshop Mechanics to join the Canning Vale workshop. You will repair and service plant and heavy machinery, with a focus on safety, reliability and efficient yield in a busy mining and infrastructure environment.

Candidates should have 5+ years in civil and marine equipment servicing, a current driver’s licence (HR preferred), and a proactive, detail‑oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Trade qualifications for plant maintenance or heavy machinery maintenance.
• Experience with maintenance fitting, installation and repairs.
• Strong diagnostic ability in hydraulic and control systems.
• Current driver’s licence, HR preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide repairs and maintenance to plant and equipment.
• Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts, and supplies.
• Physically inspect and sign for delivered goods and materials.
• Request orders through the Senior Mechanic or WA Maintenance Superintendent.
• Ensure materials are ordered and sequenced with short lead times.
• Efficiently and securely store materials to minimize double handling and theft.
• Adhere to Austral HSE standard and procedures.

We are currently seeking experienced Workshop Mechanics to join our Perth based Team in our Canning Vale Workshop. The successful candidates will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in service and repairs of civil and marine plant and equipment and on heavy machinery.

Reporting to the WA Maintenance Supervisor, your main duties will include (but not limited to):

• Provide repairs and maintenance to plant and equipment
• Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts, and supplies
• Physically inspect and sign for delivered goods and materials
• Request orders through the Senior Mechanic or WA Maintenance Superintendent
• Ensure materials are ordered and sequenced with short lead times

To be considered for the position you must have:

• Trade Qualifications for Plant Maintenance or Heavy Machinery Maintenance
• A high level of maintenance fitting skills including installation and repairs
• Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in hydraulic and control systems
• Very high attention to detail and quality with a safety focused mindset
• Excellent communication to ensure all processes align with our mission statement and core values
• In-depth understanding of mechanical diagnosis and repair including drawing interpretation and application
• Current driver's license, preferably HR
