Job summary

Simply Tasty – Salads & Ready Meals Manufacturing in Bendigo, Victoria is seeking a proactive Purchasing / Procurement Officer to join our growing team. You will coordinate purchasing of raw ingredients, packaging materials and supplies to support our daily production operations.

Reporting to management, you will build strong supplier relationships, obtain quotes, raise purchase orders and monitor stock levels to prevent shortages.

Responsibilities

With our modern production facility and continued opportunities for growth, we are looking for a proactive and organized Purchasing / Procurement Officer to join our team.

This is an important role within our business, ensuring raw ingredients, packaging materials and other essential supplies are sourced efficiently, competitively priced and available when required to support our daily production operations.

About the role

Reporting to management, you will be responsible for coordinating purchasing activities across the business, maintaining appropriate stock levels and building strong working relationships with suppliers to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our production facility.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing and procurement of raw ingredients, fresh produce, packaging materials and general business supplies
• Coordinate purchasing requirements with production and operational teams to ensure materials are available when needed
• Monitor stock levels, usage and future requirements to minimize shortages and excess stock
• Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of pricing, quantities and delivery dates
• Source new suppliers, obtain quotations and negotiate pricing and supply terms
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers
• Monitor supplier performance, including quality, pricing, reliability and delivery schedules
• Work closely with production, warehouse and quality teams to resolve supply issues
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information and inventory data
• Assist with cost control, waste reduction and identifying opportunities to improve purchasing efficiencies

About you

• Previous experience in purchasing, procurement or supply chain coordination
• Strong negotiation, communication and supplier relationship management skills
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
• Good computer skills and experience using purchasing, inventory or ERP systems
• The ability to analyze pricing, stock usage and purchasing data
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
• The ability to work collaboratively with production, warehouse and office teams
• Experience in food manufacturing, fresh produce, food service or FMCG would be highly regarded
