Job summary

SMW Group is seeking experienced Pump Fitters to support mine sites across Bowen Basin. You will inspect, maintain, fault-find and rebuild dewatering pump systems, working with an established field service team to ensure reliability and safety on site.

The role requires hands-on capability, autonomous on-site work, and adherence to site procedures. Permanent, full-time employment offered with strong safety culture and career progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience with coal mining pump operations or heavy industrial maintenance.
• Australian recognised trade certificate as heavy diesel mechanic or mobile plant technician.
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence and High Risk Work Licences desired/advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain, fault find, repair and rebuild mine site dewatering pump systems.
• Work autonomously on site as part of an experienced field service team.

SMW Group is currently seeking experienced Pump Fitters to join our expanding operations across multiple mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin.

With more than a decade of proven delivery, SMW Group is a trusted Central Queensland contractor specialising in field servicing, maintenance, emergency repair and rebuild services to the mining, civil and construction sectors. We are known for running well-managed sites, maintaining long term client relationships and retaining skilled tradespeople through consistent work and practical leadership.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity suited to pump fitters who are experienced in Coal Mining Pump systems, site-ready and looking for stable, long term employment with a contractor that values reliability and workmanship.

As a Pump Fitter with SMW Group, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, repair and rebuild of mine site dewatering pump systems. You will work as part of an experienced field service team supporting operational mine sites, ensuring equipment reliability and compliance with site safety standards.

The role requires a strong hands on background, the ability to work autonomously on site and a practical approach to maintenance and repairs in demanding environments.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience working on Coal Mining Pump operations or heavy industrial environment
• Experience with Caterpillar and Cummins Equipment (Desirable)
• Experience with Legra Pumps (Desirable)
• Australian recognised Trade Certificate as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic or Mobile Plant Technician
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence
• Standard 11 (or willingness to obtain)
• Current Coal Board Medical
• High Risk Work Licences (highly desirable)
• A strong safety focus and ability to follow site procedures
