Job summary

SMW Group in Rockhampton, QLD is seeking experienced Diesel Fitters to join our expanding operations across Bowen Basin sites. The role focuses on inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, repair and rebuild of heavy diesel-powered plant used on mine sites.

Qualifications

• Experience as Diesel Fitter in coal mining or heavy mobile equipment.
• Australian recognised Trade Certificate.
• Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
• Standard 11 qualification or willingness to obtain.
• Coal Board Medical current.
• High Risk Work Licences desirable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain, fault-find, repair and rebuild heavy diesel-powered equipment across mine sites.
• Work autonomously on site with hands-on maintenance in demanding environments.
• Ensure safety compliance and site procedures.

SMW Group is currently seeking experienced Diesel Fitters to join our expanding operations near across multiple sites in the Bowen Basin.

With more than a decade of proven delivery, SMW Group is a trusted Central Queensland contractor specialising in field servicing, maintenance, emergency repair and rebuild services to the mining, civil and construction sectors. We are known for running well-managed sites, maintaining long term client relationships and retaining skilled tradespeople through consistent work and practical leadership.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity suited to Diesel Fitters who are experienced in Coal Mining Heavy Mobile Equipment, site ready and looking for stable, long term employment with a contractor that values reliability and workmanship.

As a Diesel Fitter with SMW Group, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, repair and rebuild of heavy mobile equipment and diesel powered plant used across operational mine sites. Working as part of an experienced field service team, you will support site operations by ensuring equipment reliability, optimal performance and strict compliance with site safety standards.

The role requires a strong hands on background, the ability to work autonomously on site and a practical approach to maintenance and repairs in demanding environments.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Demonstrated experience working as a Diesel Fitter within coal mining, heavy mobile equipment (HME), or heavy industrial environments

Australian recognised Trade Certificate

Strong mechanical aptitude with proven diagnostic and fault finding capability on diesel-powered plant and equipment

Current Australian Driver’s Licence

Standard 11 (or willingness to obtain)

Current Coal Board Medical

High Risk Work Licences (highly desirable)

Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and adherence to site procedures
