Job summary

Strike 1 Recruitment is seeking an Intermediate Public Practice Accountant for a role in Australia. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of clients, prepare financial statements and tax returns, and provide strategic business advisory services.

You will work with junior staff, ensure compliance with Australian tax laws, and contribute to continuous improvements within the firm. Relevant CA/CPA status or progress is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• CA/CPA qualification or working towards completion.
• Experience in public practice accounting.
• Strong knowledge of Australian taxation legislation and compliance requirements.
• Experience preparing financial statements, tax returns and management reports.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Strong client relationship and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, APS or HandiSoft.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients.
• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns and compliance reports.
• Provide taxation advice and business advisory services.
• Complete complex accounting tasks including reconciliations, reporting and financial analysis.
• Assist clients with business structures, planning and financial decision-making.
• Review work prepared by junior accountants and provide guidance and mentoring.
• Liaise directly with clients, ATO representatives and other professional stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes and accounting processes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, taxation legislation and professional requirements.
• Assist with workflow management and continuous improvement initiatives.
