Job summary

The Victorian Government's Department of Justice and Community Safety in Melbourne is recruiting a Manager, Public Law & Litigation. You will lead lawyers who advise on government decisions and court cases, and help ministers resolve complex legal issues.

This is an ongoing, full-time role. You will provide clear legal and policy advice, manage sensitive class actions and major disputes, mentor lawyers, and build cross-government relationships to solve problems.

Qualifications

• Must hold admission to practise law in Victoria or qualify for admission.
• Strong legal skills to analyse complex issues and provide sound solutions.
• Experience advising on public or administrative law, or civil/criminal litigation.
• Knowledge of Victorian Government and Cabinet processes.
• Leadership to support a diverse team and build trust.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear legal and policy advice to ministers and the department.
• Manage sensitive court cases, including class actions and major disputes.
• Research complex legal questions and guide preparation of legal documents.
• Lead and mentor lawyers, plan workloads and foster an inclusive team.
• Build strong cross-government relationships to solve legal problems.
