Job summary

The Department of Justice in Victoria is seeking a manager of public law & litigation to lead lawyers who advise on government decisions and court cases. You will help ministers and the department resolve complex legal issues.

You will provide clear legal and policy advice, manage sensitive court cases, research complex questions, mentor lawyers, plan workloads and build an inclusive team across government to solve legal problems.

Qualifications

Strong legal skills to analyse complex issues and interpret laws.
Experience advising on public or administrative law or civil/criminal litigation.
Knowledge or experience of Victorian Government and Cabinet processes.
Leadership to support a diverse team and manage change.

Responsibilities

Provide clear legal and policy advice to ministers and the department.
Manage sensitive court cases, including class actions and major disputes.
Research complex legal questions, interpret laws and guide preparation of legal documents.
Lead and mentor lawyers, plan workloads and build an inclusive team.
Build strong working relationships across government to solve legal problems.
