Job summary

Canteen is a not-for-profit focused on supporting young people affected by cancer. A Psychosocial Clinician role based in Canberra combines counselling, case management and activities in camps and programs for 12-25 year-olds.

You’ll work across hospital and community settings, delivering assessments, ongoing support, and collaborative care with families, schools and partners, with opportunities for development and overtime.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in providing individual and group-based psychosocial support. Proven ability to work effectively with young people and families.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
• A proactive and positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Warm, compassionate, and friendly approach to supporting our young people.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualised psychosocial assessments including an initial interview and the completion of surveys that will help identify needs and level of wellbeing.
• Provide ongoing individual support to Young People which may include the provision of evidence-based counselling interventions, psychoeducation, care coordination and therapeutic case management and support accessing other specialised services internal and external to Canteen.
• Liaise with hospital social work teams, oncology staff, outpatient clinics, schools and the wider community to establish and build effective cancer, medical and psychosocial networks, and ensure they receive up-to-date information about Canteen services and activities on a regular basis.
• In collaboration with state and national teams, develop and facilitate educational and recreation camps, programs and outings, weekend activities, and other programs in response to the Young People’s needs.
• Ensure Young Peoples’ involvement in each area of operation is a priority, and that opportunities to access and participate in programs is encouraged in accordance with a young person’s level of need.

We are now seeking a Psychosocial Clinician who will play a pivotal role in acquiring, growing and retaining one-off supporters. This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly varied and rewarding clinical role. You'll support young people and families through a blend of counselling (both face-to-face and telehealth), case management, recreational and therapeutic programs, and camps, offering genuine variety and impact in your day-to-day work. You'll be based in a beautiful shared office space alongside the Leukemia Foundation, enjoy regular opportunities to connect with the broader team in Sydney, and have the option to participate in programs and camps, with additional overtime opportunities available. About You

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or related Allied Health Field.
• Eligibility for membership/registration with a relevant professional body (e.g. AASW, AHPRA, PACFA).
• Demonstrated experience in providing individual and group-based psychosocial support. Proven ability to work effectively with young people and families.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
• A proactive and positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Warm, compassionate, and friendly approach to supporting our young people.

Employment Expectations

• Successfully complete and maintain a current National Police Check and Working with Child Check relevant to the individual’s state jurisdiction.
