Job summary

UNSW is seeking a Project Manager to lead CardiacAI, a digital health research infrastructure enabling secure use of electronic medical records and AI for cardiovascular research across NSW. The role includes overseeing governance, data access, and stakeholder engagement within a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in health, public health, health data science, biomedical science, health informatics, computer science, information systems, implementation science, project management, or a related discipline.
• Postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
• Extensive project management experience across the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
• Experience leading end-to-end delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects in the research or public sector.
• Experience with health data platforms, digital health technologies, software development and/or data engineering is highly regarded.
• Experience preparing and maintaining human research ethics and governance applications.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and governance for health data.
• Advanced written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience working across diverse teams and stakeholders while managing priorities.
• Budget management and resource allocation experience.
• Experience with a range of digital systems and applications.

Responsibilities

Centre for Big Data Research in Health

The Centre for Big Data Research in Health is Australia’s first research centre dedicated to health research using big data. Our research is collaborative, involving codesign and coproduction methods with consumers, communities and health care providers. Together, we aim to facilitate long term translation and implementation into health policy, service and programs.

The CardiacAI research team is comprised of a group of doctors and university researchers who have an interest in healthcare ‘big data’ research that produces rapid, real-world evidence to inform the healthcare of people with cardiovascular disease.

The team have established the CardiacAI Data Repository that brings large amounts of Australian healthcare data together in a secure environment with strict conditions for use of these data with an appropriate level of oversight of research activities. This data resource is made available to Australian researchers who have a research idea that will generate new knowledge and increase the quality, safety and efficiency of cardiovascular healthcare. Sharing this data resource reduces the expense associated with accessing these data for a research project, removes duplicatation of this preliminary work and accelerates the delivery of research findings and innovations.

The Opportunity

The Project Manager will lead the delivery and ongoing development of CardiacAI, a digital health research infrastructure enabling the secure use of electronic medical records, linked health data and AI for cardiovascular research and patient care in NSW. The role will also lead delivery of the MRFF-funded ID-HF project, deploying and evaluating an AI-enabled clinical decision support tool for heart failure care across NSW health services.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Project Manager will oversee strategic planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, operations, quality assurance and reporting, while ensuring compliance with UNSW and NSW Health data governance requirements. Working across multidisciplinary teams, the role will build strong relationships with researchers, clinicians, engineers, consumers and health service partners to coordinate delivery and collaboration.

The role will also support research enablement through ethics and governance approvals, data access, researcher onboarding and training, and develop effective project documentation, communication and reporting frameworks to support transparent governance, accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Skills And Experience Required

• Relevant tertiary qualification in health, public health, health data science, biomedical science, health informatics, computer science, information systems, implementation science, project management, or a related discipline, with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence. Postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
• Extensive project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
• Demonstrated high-level experience in leading the end-to-end delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects in the research or public sector. Experience in managing projects involving health data platforms, digital health technologies, software development and/or data engineering will be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and maintaining human research ethics and governance applications relevant to the collection and use of health data.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, legislation, and governance frameworks relevant to the collection, use and disclosure of health data.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills, and negotiation skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Demonstrated success in working effectively and collaboratively across diverse multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups while managing competing priorities.
• Demonstrated experience in budget management and resource allocation.
• High level of experience working with a range of digital systems and applications.
